Introduction

Macropodus opercularis, also known as the paradise fish or Paradise Gourami, is a gourami species native to Southeast Asia. It’s a member of the anabantoid family of fish and is known for being an “air-breather”. Paradise fish can grow up to 6.7 centimeters long, but most are around 5.5 centimeters. They are known for being combative and can harass and attack each other, and potentially kill smaller fish. They can also tolerate a wide range of water conditions, from cool to warm.

The Paradise Gourami (Macropodus opercularis) is a striking and colorful freshwater fish admired for its vibrant hues and elegant fins. At 5-6 cm in length, this fish is still relatively small but displays its distinctive features vividly. The Paradise Gourami boasts a brilliant palette of colors, including shades of blue, red, and green, which can vary depending on the individual and its environment. It prefers a well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding spots and gentle water movement. The water should be kept at a temperature range of 72-78F (22-26C) with a pH level between 6.0 and 7.5. The Paradise Gourami is an omnivore and thrives on a varied diet that includes high-quality flake foods, pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods like daphnia or bloodworms. Its vibrant colors and tranquil nature make it a charming and attractive addition to any freshwater aquarium.
