Introduction

This rosette-shaped plant has a one-of-a-kind appearance and it is perfect for the high-light aquarium foreground!

Downoi (Pogostemon helferi) is arelatively newly cultivated stem plant that has recently developed some notice in the aquarium hobby. Native to Thailand, it is distinctive due to its rosette shape and wavy green leaves.Under high lighting, it will maintain this attractive shape and will be a superb foreground plant. It can even be attached to driftwood and rocks in the aquarium!

Care for Downoi is fairly simple. It growsquickly with good maintenance and care. Due to its fast growth, it requires a great deal of nutrients. Like many plants, this plant will respond significantly toCO2. It can be planted in the substrate and stems of excessive length can be trimmed, then the cuttings can be replanted to propagate the plant further. Mature plants will also propagate through runners. It can also be planted emersed in terrariums, paludariums, and viquariums.

This listing is for the tissue culture form of Downoi. Tissue cultures are superior to traditional forms of aquarium plants in many ways. They are produced in a completely sterile environment which eliminates the possibility of them carrying pest snails or algae spores. They have a shelf life (before introduction to the aquarium) of several months if properly maintained and they are housed in a nutrient gel until introduced to the aquarium. To introduce a tissue culture plant to the aquarium, simply rinse off as much nutrient gel as possible, then plant as usual. The nutrient gel will not harm your aquarium.

Packaging may vary. Tissue Culture plants may arrive in bag or cup form.
